Types of Candies – Lots of Varieties Available
A candy is a richly made sweet confection that is usually made from sugar and combined with nuts, grains etc. Candies are basically coated with syrup and are of many kinds. There is a difference between candy and desserts as desserts means any sweet dish. Candy comes under desserts and also includes ice cream, pastry, fruits that are usually served after a meal is over.
Candy was originated centuries ago when people felt the need of a processed sweetening thing. In the old times, it is said that people used to have honey directly from the bees hives in order to satisfy their taste buds. In those days, there was no concept of sugar or candy. Hence, the first form of candy was fruits and nuts that were served after rolled in honey and were taken after meals. When sugar crystals were first made in the middle age, sugar was very expensive and middle class families could not afford it. But as time passed and factories opened and sugar cane was produced in bulk, then people realized the need of sugar and hence sugar candies were formed too. But even then, the candy made from sugar could only be afforded by the affluent families and upper class. After some time, in 1519 the Spanish explorers who came to visit Mexico discovered the cocoa plant from which chocolate was made.
In the 17th century, the price of the candy was dropped and hard candy also came in market. It became popular rapidly as all the candy lovers bought many of them. Hence, when the candy companies started earning so much profit, many new companies also came in to existence in the mid of 1800s and hence United States became famous for candy production as around four hundred factories were opened.
There are many types of candies available. Some of them are as follows.
TYPES OF CANDIES:
1. Sweet is a type of candy that is rich in sugar and is usually coated with syrup or sugar.
2. Candy bar is also a type of candy which differs in shape than other candies but tastes the same. It is bar-shaped.
3. Butter-scotch is a hard and a brittle kind of candy that is smooth and is made up of butter and no -crystallized sugar.
4. Candy floss or cotton candy is also a type of candy. It is made when the sugar is spun and boiled at a high temperature.
